Happy Wednesday! There's something ultra feminine about wearing blush tones--it's just so pretty. I don't normally gravitate towards a "pretty" style which is probably why I don't own a lot of pink but I love the lightweight linen material of this moto jacket which is perfect for those cool summer nights. It's a nice change from the usual denim jacket/blazer, no?

Have a great week. Xo.

Weekend Snapshots

This weekend I…

1. Overdosed on yellow-flesh watermelons and melons from the farmers market. It was my first time trying yellow-flesh watermelons (tastes just like a regular watermelon but more fun to look at!) and have been eating melt in your mouth melons from the market the past couple of weeks. Just can't get enough of these fruits that are currently in season…

2. Went to the Sarah McLachlan concert at Wolf Trap. You're allowed to bring food and drinks (including alcohol--win!) so decided to pack a small bag full of food and snacks to picnic with prior to the concert. Before she performed, I got the chance to meet her which was a treat because she was so down to earth. She is amazing live.

3. Have been thinking about what to do with the latest summer vegetables from the CSA (community supported agriculture). Lately I've been eating a lot of zucchini and summer squash than I probably have consumed in my entire life and have actually been enjoying these in season vegetables. But, my counter has been overflowing with zucchinis and summer squash which has made me really put on my culinary hat on what else to do with these guys. So far I've eaten them raw in a southwestern quinoa dish I recently made and also used a vegetable peeler to turn them into a "pasta" for a separate recipe. Both dishes were really delicious and consumed before I could pictures for the blog--sorry! I'm thinking of making a sautéed zucchini with basil, mint, and walnuts next. If it turns out great, I'll post the recipe soon.

4. Finally winded down the weekend with new food magazines, a fresh coat of new nail polish (OPI's "Pompeii Purple), and my smoothie recipe on Sunday's Buzzfeed (thanks for the feature Buzzfeed!)

How was your weekend?

Hi everyone! Sorry for the week long absence--I just got back from a 6 day mini vacay to LA and taking the red eye back exhausted me yesterday. Anyway, the weather and food from the trip couldn't have been more perfect and I'll have an update from the trip soon:)

Have a great week! Xo.

While I was visiting my sister in NYC over Memorial Day weekend a couple of months ago, I saw this dress at Saks while shopping and was immediately drawn to it (hello, stripes!) The cheeky cut out in the middle, along with the fun criss cross in the front makes this a no brainer that it's one of my favorite dress purchases as of late. After seeing how this striped dress fits my body type well, I was drawn to this designer line and bought another dress here and absolutely love the fit and flare look of it (sizing is small).

Now that it feels like summer, this dress will be getting lots of wear over the next couple of months especially since it's been hanging in my closet since May;)

Wishing you a great week. Xo.

Weekend Snapshots

This weekend I…

1. Went blueberry picking at Homestead Farm in Maryland. I absolutely love going to the farm to pick fresh fruits when they're in season (peaches are next!) and it makes me weirdly giddy. By the end of the picking I ended up with 5 lbs of fresh, plump, sweet blueberries.

2. Watched the fireworks in Washington, DC with an amazing view of the monument and the capital. It was the perfect backdrop and location (rooftop of a friend's work building), away from the crowds.

3. Upgraded my passport case to a new one. I've been on the eye for a simple and classic style that isn't trendy and this Chanel case is it. Love.

4. Dined at The Red Hen. I attended The RAMMYs a couple of weeks ago (basically the Oscars for DC restaurants) and The Red Hen won for best new restaurant of the year and their chef won rising culinary star of the year so naturally we had to check it out. Highly recommend ordering the burrata  and the made in house fennel sausage ragu. I'm still thinking about both dishes...

5. Hosted dinner and made a baked tilapia with herb butter, couscous, and a new vegetable dish that's been on constant rotation the past couple of weeks. Considering I'm not the biggest fan of vegetables (slowly changing), I came across a recipe that uses raw summer squash and zucchini for a salad. Umm it is so dang good. I used a vegetable peeler to make ribbons from the vegetables so it looks like pasta and dressed it with a home made green goddess dressing and chopped walnuts. It was basically the highlight of the night for everyone. Woot woot.

Summer so far has been fun, busy, yet relaxing which explains the less frequent blog posting (sorry!) I've been trying to take advantage of the warm weather with outdoor activities such as hiking, trying to get back into golfing, bike shopping (more on that later) and dining al fresco at several new to me restaurants in the DMV area with my nearest and dearest. Although I'm positive the wanting to dine al fresco will promptly change to just wanting to be inside a full on AC blasting restaurant with the recent humidity we've been experiencing around here. Not cute. Anyway, I promise to be better about updating more starting with a new "Weekend Snapshots" post on Monday:)

Hope you're having a great week. Xo.
