Wanderlust: Greece

Summer is coming to a close and before we know it, the leaves will start to change colors and temperatures will begin to fall. This means no more flip flops and shorts. Sad. As I reflect on this past summer, one of the highlights was traveling to Greece with my sister and friends. We flew into Athens and island hopped by ferry from Crete to Santorini and Mykonos. One of the many things I absolutely love about traveling is experiencing the food from the culture because I believe one of the best ways to truly get to know one's culture is through their cuisine. That being said, the food in Greece was unbelievably fresh and delicious while their wine, specifically their white, was crisp, refreshing, with a hint of sweetness. It reminded me of a Riesling which happens to be my favorite white wine. I had a greek salad every.single.day and probably ate the best tomatoes, feta, and fish in my life during this trip--no joke. Greek food is not that complex but it made me realize that using fresh ingredients when cooking can make a significant impact on the outcome of the dish. One thing I did notice was that they put french fries in their gyro! Amazing. Such a simple concept yet it makes a difference, my friends.

Santorini and Mykonos were my two favorite islands out of the three. If I had to plan it all over again I wouldn't have visited Crete and instead replace it with another island. I've traveled quite a bit and I will say that Santorini was one of the most beautiful towns I've ever been to. It is known for it's gorgeous blue domes, houses built on cliffs, and the amazing sunsets (people travel specifically to Santorini for the fabulous sunsets). Mykonos is known for their lovely beaches but the vibe is very different from Santorini. It is known to be a party town so depending on what kind of vacation you're going for I would plan accordingly. The water in Mykonos was one of the bluest and clearest waters I've seen (Hermes has an actual color called Mykonos blue) and the windmills are the quintessential features of this island.

I'm currently in the process of planning another trip which will be to Italy in about a month, so stay tuned for more wanderlusting:)

Maxi dresses look great on any woman, whether they are tall or petite (like myself). Monochromatic maxi dresses are especially flattering for petite sized women because they elongate the body. The boy and I had reservations at a DC restaurant (forgot to take my camera, sorry!) and decided to wear this dress since the color black can easily look dressy if accessorized correctly;)

Hope all you east coasters stayed safe during this crazy hurricane.
