Hi everyone! One thing that's been a common thread through my blog and that I hope to continue, is recycling articles of clothing and remixing it to wear it differently. It's so easy to get lost in the latest trend and feel the need to buy what's currently popular, that existing items in your closet can get neglected. I'm definitely guilty of this and am trying to be more cognizant of not falling victim to it, especially because it can become costly.

This red blazer from J.Crew has been one of my favorite items I purchased a couple months ago (they have been killing it lately with their clothes). Red is one of my favorite colors to wear whether it be from bags/clothes but I noticed it also has the tendency to have people shy away from it because it's such a bold color. However, I encourage you to incorporate red into your wardrobe because it's the perfect pop of color to give to your outfits! I wore today's blazer previously HERE and HERE to give you ideas on how to pair reds in outfits and hope you will be inspired to add this vibrant color into your closet.

Be bold. Wear it confidently. Xo

Happy Friday! Are you ready for the weekend as much as I am? This coat I'm wearing on the blog today will be a constant fixture this weekend while I run errands during the day because it's the perfect cover over a plain Jane outfit. If you haven't noticed already, I have a mild obsession with coats/jackets and I just couldn't resist buying this coat when I first saw it hanging beautifully on the racks. It has the softest texture to it and the cut of the coat gives it so much character. Every time I put it on, it makes me feel like I'm Sherlock Holmes;)

Have a wonderful, wonderful weekend. Xo.

Hi everyone! Now that the holiday season is officially over, life will hopefully slow down a bit for me (and you). I guess you can say this outfit reflects the relaxed attitude I'm feeling right now.

New years day always has me in a retrospective mood but also has me looking forward to the new year in terms of goals and personal growth for myself. There were many highlights in 2012 such as amazing opportunities and unexpected features with my blog, existing friendships that grew stronger, new friends gained, buying my first home/learning the responsibility that comes with home ownership, and going back to church. The lows of last year was definitely the death of my grandmother, coping with the grieving process that comes with the death of a loved one, and the sad realization that some friendships just aren't worth nurturing and are better left in the past.

I hope that 2012 was a joyful one for you and that my little corner of the web has been somewhat inspirational to you through outfit ideas or encouraged you to get in the kitchen and experiment with recipes. I'm excited to see what 2013 has in store for me and that you'll stick around to find out.

Happy new year and have a great rest of the week. Xo.

Hi everyone! Over the weekend, this outfit was my go to uniform with the DC area experiencing very mild temperatures. It's simple but adding a hat kind of elevates that simplicity into something a bit more chic, no?;)

Hope your week is going well. Work has been rough and tiring the past couple of days and I am so thankful to have a day off today to get some much needed rest. It's been a whirlwind, past couple of weeks with personal and blog related projects and I can not wait for a little break with the holidays coming up. I have a very exciting (well, to me at least) announcement on Friday that I can't wait to share with you;)

Have a fantastic day. Xo.

Hi everyone! Hope your week is going well. I'm on my last day of my staycation and putting the finishing touches on my home improvement projects around the house. It's going well so far and I'm excited to see what the outcome will look like after today.

Today's outfit post is somewhat redundant. Every time I wear these eggplant colored jeans I automatically think of pairing it withe the color yellow because it's one of my favorite color pairings, which I initially wore it HERE during Spring. I wanted to keep today's look conservative yet playful and what better way to make an outfit a bit more fun then with polka dots?;)

Thanks for visiting and I'll talk to you soon! Xo.

Weekend Snapshots

This weekend I...

1. Had brunch at Cheesestique in Old Town Alexandria. It's a cute little cheese/wine shop where you can do wine tasting and dine in. I have definite plans to come back.

2. Discovered the best chocolate chip cookie recipe. I've gone through several recipes over the years but this one tops it off. It was my first time using chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips and I think that made a big difference. Will share the recipe soon.

3. Came across an amazing deal on these J Brand jeans for $41 at Last Call Neiman Marcus (the outlet). I've been wearing them non stop over the weekend and the color is so easy to pair with--it's also a great color to segway into the fall season.

4. Visited Barrel Oak Winery for the first time. I was initially attracted to this place after reading about it in Washingtonian magazine because it was a dog friendly winery. I packed some food and we ended up spending the evening here. It's a beautiful winery that has lots of outdoor seating with an amazing setting. This is another place I'd come back to.

5. Checked off another thing of my "shopping list" which is bunched up strands of pearls. I've been on the search for a necklace like the one I bought and surprisingly found it at the J.Crew outlet. I love finding things I want in unexpected places.

Let's get brunch

For the past couple of days, the weather has been cold, rainy and dismal. Today, the sun is finally shining and it actually feels like spring. I'm headed out to meet a friend for brunch and wanted to wear these beautiful eggplant colored jeans I bought recently for an amazing price at Nordstrom Rack. For what JBrand normally costs, the price I bought these for ($47!!) was such a steal.

Awhile back, I mentioned I love pairing yellow and purple together. They were my favorite colors I loved pairing together growing up and nothing has changed=) If you're hesitant to play with bright or bold hues, start with one bold color and incorporate the other color with ease. The yellows from my top are noticeable but it's not over the top where the the only color you see is yellow. The cream color offsets the yellow and tones it down. I also couldn't resist adding a bit of "bling" to the outfit;)

Hope you're having a great week so far. Talk soon xo.

Weekend Snapshots

This weekend I...

1. Scored a pair of J Brand jeans in a gorgeous eggplant color for an amazing deal at Nordstrom Rack. I bought it for $47 which is such a bargain because they're normally priced over $100.

2. Made my pimiento spread again and made sandwiches out of it. I also made a really easy cheesecake parfait the same day. My friend Melanie from LaBelleMel came over to visit and I wanted to make something yummy for her. I'm pretty sure she left my place happily stuffed;)

3. Also made rasberry and chocolate ganache macarons with Melanie for the first time. It was definitely a trial and error session but the end result was worth it. I love to cook and try new recipes but when I can share that experience with friends, it makes it that much better.

4. Dined at Vermilion. I've been wanting to try this restaurant (located in Alexandria, VA) for awhile now and finally had the opportunity this weekend. Everything, and I mean everything, tasted heavenly. You know you had a good meal if you're still thinking about it a couple days later. It's a bit pricey but worth it. If you're looking for a place to dine for a special occasion, I'd highly recommend this restaurant.

5. Finally found a rug!!! I've been searching for months to find the perfect color and design that would mesh well with my furniture/color scheme in my living area and found it at CB2, along with an awesome lamp (not pictured). So happy that my place is finally starting to come along to my liking.

6. Several weeks ago I was contacted to see if I was interested in "modeling" a spring work wear shoot for Brightest Young Things (BYT) and Pleathertte. It was a fun experience to play dress up in cute clothes and play "model" for the day. The full editorial is coming out today but the preview behind the scenes video debuted this weekend. Please check the video out=)

7. Helped cook Easter dinner with my family. The menu consisted of Hoisin marinated pork tenderloin, black bean and tomato quinoa (a huge hit at dinner and will post recipe this week) and sauteed green beans with bacon. Everything was nomnom worthy.
